Techno-not-techno/man-not-machine band, Cabaret Contemporain get loose and wild on stage. The band swerves any help from computers or technology (save some posh mics, we reckon) to create a richly textured body of what they call "songs rather than tracks that slowly evolve". Their unfeasibly tight, organically mechanized grooves are always conducted with a sense of restraint and deftness. Very crafty fusion of cosmic jazz, soul and techno by the brilliant man-machine band! In a sense Cabaret Contemporain are Kraftwerk in reverse, stripping techno of its synthesisers and drum machines and replacing them with acoustic instruments: pianos, strings, brass, and orchestral percussion.
